First tank: dash says 41.0, actually came out as 42.5.

Second tank: Dash says 44.1, actually came out as 41.3.

Both were topped off. Total average is 41.8 since I bought the car and fixed the HG.

The second fill may have been a little bit more topped off. Either way, I am spending about $5/week on gas, so I feel pretty great. (Coming from driving a 2003 BMW X5 gas guzzler.)

I am getting a set of snow tires later today and taking it on its first highway road trip since I bought it and fixed the head gasket. Looking forward to having a long trip under its belt and seeing the highway mileage.

What was the miles on it? Have you also cleaned the EGR circuit?

I am at 263k now, and yes I had it cleaned in the ultrasonic tank until it was sparkly.

At 246k and average around 45-46mph still, a nice tailwind and some back country roads and I can hit that 50mph they talk about;)

    "it" ?
    Which parts did you clean?
The intake manifold is the important part because it is the part that makes the individual port flow uneven.

I'm only getting 30-35mpg even with conservative driving habits. Could this be an indicator of a bad battery? How else can I troubleshoot this issue.

Calculated or displayed? For how long, recent drop? What’s the miles on it? Any recent maintenance, or new tires? Change to driving patterns, trip length, conditions, speed?

addendum: just noticed your other posting, regarding hitting a curb, air bags deployed and so on. Seriously, you’ve got major fish to fry, and need pro to assess.

Haha indeed. This was before hitting the curb so was always trying to figure it out.

To reply, it was displayed as 35mpg. Been like this since I bought it at 160k miles. It's running on same old tires and this is the observance after several 100-200 mile rides to outdoor parks driving at 65mph or so mostly on the highway in summer weather.

Calculated (aka actual) mpg is typically ~7% less with 3rd gen.

Many things can cause lower mpb. Tires, inflation of tires, driving habits..... certainly a hybrid
battery that is getting weak. A weak 12v battery....
Perhaps using the Prolong system to "renew" it. It certainly helped me
get another 100,000 miles out of mine.

Calculated mpg and actually mpg will never be exactly the same. Both are estimates.
Even if you use the same pump and fill up at the same time under the same conditions you'll never
fill up to the exact same spot every time.

My calculated is usually 1-2 mpg higher than my actual mpg. But it's close enough.

Gen 5 Toyota apparently knocked off the 7% BS factor; previous gens were notoriously “optimistic”.

I have been tracking my mpg with the Carfax fuel tracker and it has been spot on and not even 1 mpg difference from what the car display is showing.

Matches the miles I get out of a tank.

    410 miles driven = 41 mpg

    395 miles driven = 39.5 mpg

My MPG display has only a 4.5% "BS factor," not including an additional ~1.1% odometer exaggeration factor with my present tires, so about 5.6% overall..
