Previously, I have a 2011 prius for 10 year, and I know that use a 12v AGM battery.
Recently, got a 2025 prius plug-in SE, by looking at the 12v battery, I am not sure it is a AGM type. It has six cap to add water (I unscrew one of them and just like a conventional 12v). So is it a AGM ?

That is not an AGM battery. Same battery that came in my 2024. It’s a Yuasa flooded lead acid battery. FYI, I replaced the OEM Yuasa with an AGM last year after the OEM battery went flat one day. AGM has worked very well in my car to date

    Cheers

thanks, for more assurance. Although searching (include priuschat), still can have a sure answer, but seem that a flooded one to me too.
The reason what to know is for a tickle charger setting.

5th gen batteries have the larger, North American sized posts?

Googles AI is saying they’re still the Japanese Industrial Standard (skinny) posts. The pictured battery looks to have the larger NA posts. Maybe just my eyes, trying to install the cable clamps will confirm.

No, Gen 4/Gen 5 battery size is BCI 140R, which is a standard battery type, also known as DIN H4 and EN LN1. Only Gen 2 and Gen 3 use those weird Japanese batteries.

The OEM Gen 4/Gen 5 battery is definitely a flooded cell.

If you go aftermarket, definitely go AGM, which is an upgrade. The Uplus BCI 140R/DIN H4/EN LN1 AGM battery on Amazon is very cheap.

I thought AGM was mostly needed due to battery being in the cabin, concerns about hydrogen venting and spillage (in a crash). What else about it is "superior", longevity?

Still, puzzling: gen 4 had battery in engine bay, for first time, and battery was switched from AGM (used in Gen 2 and 3) to flooded-acid. Then it's back in the hatch in gen 5, but STILL flooded-acid.

AGM batteries last longer and are more resistant to abuse and/or heavy-duty use. They have a higher CCA, too.

In Gen 5, it has an exhaust tube attached to a side vent hole.

The OEM Gen 5 battery is slightly different than the OEM Gen 4 battery in that it has side vent holes for exhaust-tube attachment. If you go aftermarket, they usually come with side vent holes and a plug for the unused vent hole, but check before you buy.

Last but not least, AGM batteries vent, too, and make sure that they come with a side vent hole and a plug for the unused hole. They are known as centrally vent batteries. See the following thread for more info.

Incorrect. Gen 4/Gen 5 BCI size is 140R.

So, @Gokhan , it's your observation that the Gen5 Prius can handle the switch from flooded to agm seamlessly?
