Don't really understand how this is 'retaliatory' but if Canada is a for-real self governing country then they can import any cars that they want to.

In the US, we also have Chinese-Made Cars.....
    • Lincoln Nautilus: A luxury SUV built in Ford's Hangzhou factory.
    • Volvo S90: Produced at Volvo's Daqing plant in China.
    • Polestar 2 & 3: Manufactured in China for the U.S. market (though Polestar's future U.S. production is shifting).
    • Buick Envision one of the first mainstream Chinese-built cars sold in the U.S.

I'm old enough to remember when it was fashionable in the US to bash Japanese cars.
If the world wants to turn a blind eye on the CCP's labour and human rights policy?
    That's not really my lookout.

I buy GMCs but I'm also aware that 'Merica (and...Canada) does not have an uncomplicated human rights history. ;)

Excellent! I want to test drive some of the Chinese EVs and gives me a good enough excuse to visit.

The spare tire comment is very funny. I wonder if spare tires are more common in cars sold in China than elsewhere.

Lighten up, Mendel. These Chinese EVs could actually be great. They have been selling them for less than what it costs to make them. The tariff rate is only 6.1%, which is next to nothing. The Canadian government probably has EV incentives, too.

As for the spare tire you want, though, I wouldn’t put much hope on it. Even the Chinese seem to have got rid of them.

The Canadian equivalent to the Detroit Auto Show will be awesome. Flying to China to see their EVs is impractical but driving up to Canada makes sense.

If it keeps the Climate Industrial Complex from forcing me to help pay tax kickbacks to already wealthy buyers??????

I say import them to the USA.....NOW!
    Duty Free!

I've always said that we will know that EVs have "arrived" when you stop having to give people tax kickbacks to drive them - and they start being taxed like gassers currently are!

If they meet Canada's DOT standard then there's a good chance that they will meet US specs, and if they don't?
    Darwinism in action.....;)

......"One of BYD's top sellers, a compact car with a short range known as both the Seagull and the Dolphin Mini, can go for less than $30,000."
I'm old enough to remember similar promises from Tesla.....:ROFLMAO::LOL:

Imagine the scenario where Chinese vehicles have penetrated the US market and there is a dispute between the countries at some level. How fast can you figure out how to shut down all links connected to the car? Think of the chaos if there were a shutdown signal sent?

Already done in Alabama. I pay an extra $203 for my Tesla and $103 for my BMW i3-REx as an alternative to the $0.30 state gas tax:
    • $203/yr / $0.30 per gal = 677 gallons of gas per year
    • $103/yr / $0,30 per gal = 343 gallons of gas per year
    • Total: 677 + 343 = 1,020 gallons of gas taxes paid per year
So my former ICE cars would need to drive:
    • 2010 Prius 54 MPG: 54 * 1020 = 55,080 miles per year
    • 1991 Camry 26 MPG: 28 * 1024 = 28,672 miles per year
Obviously Alabama's "hippy tax" is not fair for either my Tesla or BMW i3. But the bigger picture is I don't pay for gasoline which is nearly an order of magnitude more expensive than the gas tax. After I converted the last of my TSLA stock to a solar roof, local miles are free. I only get gasoline parity when out of town, SuperCharging.

When I used to buy local grid power to charge my EVs:
    • $2.50 / 54 MPG Prius = $0.046 per mile (best case)
    • $2,50 / 26 MPG Camry = $0.096 per mile (worst case)
    • $0.12 / 4 mi/kWh = $0.030 per mile (before solar roof)
