Title. Looking for a replacement tank. Maybe it's an exercise in futility but I'd like to see what my options are before eventually swapping to a Gen 9 Corolla fuel tank. Is there a way to test capacity before installing a used fuel tank?

Can I fill it up with water then run the fuel pump to drain the tank. Then check how much was pumped out against the amount I put in? If good then fill up with premium and HEET to burn off residual water?

    TIA

I don't think so . You could try it . Gas acts differently

Ah, that's what I was trying to avoid -- using actual gas to test with no real way of safely disposing of possible contaminated gas.

for 50 bucks to remove a used one, I might try it.

You could use another solution that acts kind of like gasoline maybe Stoddard solution that's what they're using dry cleaning kind of acts like the gas does expanding contracting etc . Water don't do nothing just sits there. Unless you're going to boil it in there or something. When I get to this we're going to be fooling with the Corolla tank matrix tank something but so far the 8 or so of these I had no gas issues . My 03 Corolla made 508K miles on original efi pump I changed it . Cats never been out of my sight much less worked on by anyone

Got links of someone who has done that? Never read of Gen9 Corolla tank working in a 2006 Prius? Seems like the parts in a corolla fuels system would be entirely different than parts in Prius fuel system?

Only option I've ever heard of that's possible is rolling the dice on a complete fuel tank assembly from a wrecked 2004-2009 Prius

I think he put a little tiny dent in the tank to slip it up past something not to kill it just a lil one I think . The guy hasn't posted since so I'm guessing everything is good

So as far as I'm concerned that's a go because it was so basically easy no mods really . Other than bagging the press sensor . Not sure how much gas that tank holds but I'm imagining it's probably more than what we started with

This guy was crazy enough to try it after reading up on another user's unfinished attempt.

Yeah, it's surprisingly straightforward. Just have to find a good location for the pressure sensor/clean air sensor. With the Corolla fuel tank I think it's like 5-600 miles, and the guy is now on a Camry tank with like 7-800 miles per tank.

Hmm a good thread for me to chase down. Thanks for the input and ideas! Might just take my chance on the totaled fuel tank and make sure it's clean before installing.

Probably what I'll be doing. Local guy has a totaled prius and wants $50 for the tank with me removing it.

Yeah with the tank that you have access to you'd be able to clean it put a new pump in it they're inexpensive sending unit have it all ready to go 500K

Do you have to get your car through state inspection? If so, then the only reliable route is to install a US spec Gen2 fuel tank.

Otherwise , you will end up with evap system trouble codes in the ECM.

No inspection only yearly registration. Man, that is really another consideration. If moving to a state or county that does require emissions inspection it has to come out and the regular tank has to be put in. That totaled Prius tank is looking better and better now.

I thought with the pressure sensor in the yeti cup or the can or whatever the deal is that was avoided that.? So I guess if the pressure sensors satisfied then maybe the EVAP is also I do not know . It's the pressure sensor that was the issue I think anything can evap you just need solenoids aimed correctly along with correct vac lines
