2007 prius was running, key in slot, hood was up. noticed smoke from just below fuse box (assuming it was the pump) and turned off. Checked under hood and couldn’t tell anything. Tried to start back and car no longer recognized the key. The door ajar alert works, as does the headlight indicator and some other things but NOT the windows and not the fob unlocking doors (but not sure if it ever did). Tried smart key button, touching fob to start button, jumped 12v (from front and from rear), changed inverter coolant pump, put new 15a fuse (for some odd reason I had a 10a there instead of 15). Dealing w this for past 6 months now and forgive me but I did NOT think to check the fuse when it first happened (not the daily driver and I have several gen 2s so the details are sketchy). 3 months ago Was out of town and sent an associate to fix and he said he changed the pump but upon my return car was in same state (not recognizing the key) so I swapped a known new pump just to be sure (and kept the old). Associate has been out of contact so can’t ask him much at all. Will change the fob battery and try again just to see, since it’s been so long
I'm not sure why we keep swapping pumps thinking that has something to do with key recognition very strange make sure 12V is . And pump and am2 fuse good . Of course you need to make sure your key fob battery is good and so on a red light ignites when you push any of the buttons on the fob upper right corner if not. Those issues may need to be dealt with
Thanks a million. Will do. Only reason why I suspect the key issue has something to do with the inverter : the smoke I saw. That was the only clue. Nothing else changed and it was instantaneous. Things were fine; and then they weren’t. I had been driving the car all month. Very odd
It won't necessarily be the key not being recognized with the am2 fuse blown the car can't start at all no matter what fob does. And if it goes in the slot it should turn the security light off and you should be able to make the car ready that doesn't guarantee engine running . But it means it's capable of running if all is correct air fuel spark etc .
I just re-verified that the fob battery is good (red light ) and the am2 15A fuse is good and the pump is currently not connected and jumping 12v using jump box at rear. Same results (I know the electronics aren’t totally dead bc the door ajar alert and a few other things are still working
Updated : the key recognized now. I’m not sure what did it: changing the fob battery, actually touching the fob to the start button, ensuring strong jump, etc. And now the struggle will be to get the Ready to come on (and to resolve this red triangle)
More than one fuse blows. Why isn't the pump connected? The system can tell its not connected and may disable the hybrid system. The inverter, mg1 and mg2 are all cooled by that pump.
