No effect as I noticed he had gotten distracted: DOGE and Trump certainly made Musk a target for some. For example: This report has a lot of flaws mixed with a few correct observations. Bob Wilson
Just think what these posts would have been like if he hadn't gone crazy ..... or showed his true colours, I guess we will never know T1 Terry
Crazy and true colors? Like being responsible for the best EVs available to the general public, making internet available to most of the world and becoming the first trillionaire and richest man on earth? Yep...wish I had some of his problems...and smarts too. FTR...I still don't knowingly own or use any of his products/services.
I know this is going to a tough call for the Elon fan club, but if you can watch to the end of this video and then point out where he is wrong, I'd love to hear your thoughts .... For those that didn't understand just what they were buying and bought into the hype .... ummm..... best use what ever cash you have to buy a good motorhome with a shower and toilet and plenty of house battery capacity and solar .... that way you will at least have a roof over your head ...... T1 Terry
Let's just say you are limiting the general public to the US buyer, but it is the name most associated with EV fires and EV deaths, so maybe that is a US bench mark ..... but please, try looking outside the US borders before making sweeping statements that include the rest of the world, but do it sitting down, the shock might weaken your knees ..... I've already made my observations as related. As for investments...I don't need or want any advice from anyone here in a car forum. This old Mechanic already worked his azz off for our f-ck you money and will be retiring in 6-8 months...very comfortably I might add. ...and as I stated before, "FTR...I still don't knowingly own or use any of his products/services."
Are yes, the amazing money they pay the man who fixes their car, yet a fitter with a 1/4 of the skill gets more than double the pay, upskill as a hydraulic fitter or heavy industrial fitter or plant mechanic, in other words using a fraction of the skills you used as a motor mechanic back in the days when you actually fixed things, and they pay you crazy money ...... but I still miss a few things from back then .... being poor isn't one of them ...... So had you held the Tesla stock, would you be able to pay the electric bills you would have had and come out ahead? I never understood Tesla stock valuations and agree there is psychic value not owning a stock with that ridiculous a PE, disassociating yourself from a man with those views and owning your own power source. Now drill your own well and power the pump with your free electricity. And with a septic system you can be largely free from utility bills and their increases. Of course there are interconnect fees and potential increased registration costs and taxes on that EV, Liable to go up given the politics in the state. Living in NC we are experiencing an extraordinary drought with water restrictions going mandatory tomorrow. Never though I'd welcome a hurricane or at least a healthy tropical storm. Navy shower time.
Tesla has been a public company for 16 years now, and they haven't exactly been flying under the radar. OF COURSE they don't operate on their own capital!! NOTHING that size does - otherwise we would go back to the lovely care-free lifestyle everyone enjoyed in the 1820's.... In the US roughly 2/3 of people live in homes, and my finely honed Spidey senses inform me that quite a few of them were bought with other people's money. It sort of works that way with cars too, since most people so not buy their cars (new or used) with Benjies. DJT doesn't live rent-free in my head, so I really do not care HOW much money he has. The dude is 80-years old and if you believe my intellectual "betters" he's not in the best of health. I would say that that's a separate topic for a separate thread in a separate forum - but I s'pose it's NOT really the case.... eh? MY views about Musk haven't really changed all that much in the last 16 years. I'm glad he's on the planet. I'm glad he's not my neighbor or a relative. I could care less about how rich or poor he is - but I would have to work at it reeeeeally hard. OTOH? I hope he generates ANOTHER trillion bucks in 'personal worth' because as little as I understand economics I DO know that it's not based on a finite number of ducats that he has stashed away in some old government auctioned Cold War missile complex. Wealth CAN be GENERATED if one is an innovator. IMO, the best example of someone not knowing how economies work is the use of the phrase REdistribution of wealth. I used to think submarine showers were rough until I joined the NCW community - where I remembered them quite fondly.
I was a muks fan., but the White House chain saw stuff opened my eyes, or forced me to take the blinders off to things like racism and calling good people names like pedo boy. he's brilliant at some things and dangerous with others, his doge results certainly proved that. I now realize the world would be fine without Tesla, space x, starlink, X, boring, flame throwers and etc
A lot of beating around the bush, but that's not an answer to the question..........which, in a way, pretty much answers the question... and I seem to remember reading a typical solar installation results in a typical gain of 6-7% higher sales price/value of a home compared to non-solar.
I don’t know as my home is not for sale and the monthly “We want to buy your home” solicitations only cite the tax assessment. It is like the Edmunds $8,000 valuation of my former 2017 BMW i3-REx. Brother 4 of 5 loves it because he no longer has work commuting fuel costs. He paid me $9,000 which also included extras like the 2” receiver hitch, home L2 charger, portable charger, sticky string tire patch, and tire inflator. Value is what the seller and buyer agree upon. Offer me enough for another solar powered house of similar size, we can chat. But offer the tax assessment valuation, no interest. Bob Wilson
Try this one then ..... change the figures and currency and come up with something that will make investing in Musk a better option that investing in solar and battery installation ....... then add in the increase in the potential value of reselling the house once the buyer understands just what this video shows ...... T1 Terry
Nice video but it missed the effect of taxes: Non-solar payments - use money subject to income taxes. This is a hidden loss of ~20% on the money that is first taxed before paying the utility bill. In effect, you have to earn 120% income to pay 100% of the utility bill. Solar cost savings - the cost avoidance from solar is NOT taxable. It is difficult to find any investment that returns the guarantee 20% avoided from the solar cost avoidance. So let us look at my actual for the past year: 614.7 kWh / (614.7 + 537.2) = 53.7 % reduction in electricity costs I am still working on how to improve my solar efficiency by ‘variable EV charging.’ Have the Tesla charge proportionately to the solar production so all excess goes into the Tesla battery first where it improves the quality of my life. Bob Wilson
According to the Googles: (TIFWIW) Tesla Motors was originally founded by engineers Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning in 2003. In 2004, Musk led the company's $7.5 million Series A funding round by investing $6.5 million. This made him the majority shareholder and chairman of the board, though he was not involved in the initial vehicle designs or day-to-day management. Yeah.....sounds like he DID 'take it over.' AND he took a failing BEV company, producing an absurdly non viable 'play-pretty' for the wealthy 'eco-chic' and transmorgified it into something that makes BEVs that are nearly economically obtainable for normies. The only mistake he really made was to sink a bunch of time, money, and effort into L5 full self driving WHILE he was democratizing BEVs. Personally? I think he could have lowered the on-ramp for electrics without all of the fuss over FSD - but that's me being me again. The Chicomms will do what they do best. FINISH that off for him by producing BEVs that REALLY ARE economically feasible as a replacement for normal people cars and trucks. I'm not an EVangelist so I really do not care about Tesla except for the fact that it's an American firm founded by somebody who WOULD be considered to be an African-American or at least an immigrant if we were the colourblind society that we TELL everybody that we want to be. SO...... IMHO, what Musk HAS done for America (and humanity in general) is to lower the payload cost to orbit by 75-80% since the Space Shuttle era - 86'd by the Obama administration for better or worse without a reasonable follow-on capability. This turned into a cash cow for the Rooskies back in the day when I was taking heat from some of "the usual suspects" by CALLING them....."Rooskies." MUSK did this by risking his own personal millions (and probably illegally shaking some money out of Tesla) and turning a warehouse in a third-world country into one of the world's most valuable companies. EVEN IF 100% of the launches by Space-X are government funded (spoiler alert! that's not even CLOSE to being true!!!) then those flights represent a massive savings over the OTHER companies ALSO funded by NASA. He also: Destroyed Twitter's ability to throttle free speech - probably one of the greatest acts of patriotism ever performed by a centi-billionaire. AND - while he was busy with of that that he established a global, low latency, low cost space-based communications company that eventually REALLY WILL lower the on-ramp for access to broadband in all of the underserved areas of the globe that 'the usual suspects' are always saying need MORE of that sort of thing. The only two reasons people hate Musk NOW is because of his relationship with DJT (who too away his government cheese with the BBB) and the fact that he's a gazillionaire, and they're not. Guess what? He has Asperger's. He doesn't GIVE a crap what people think about him!
You're saying he put the 'A$$' - in Asperger's (as my wife likes to say) . It's a blessing & a curse.
