Yes . . . . . . still - the decision to compare to the gen1 Volt makes one wonder WHY they chose the 2015 for comparison - versus the 2016 volt, after all - the 2nd Gen Volt was released by September of 2015. It's almost as though they were trying to skew comparisons. By 2015 - the last year of 4th Gen pri - it had developed quite a bit since the 1990s. Having the gen1 volt isn't too dissimilar from having the 1st or 2nd gen prius. A 1st of any car let's the manufacturer know what they need to fix or at least tweak. Consider the 1st gen volt - it needed premium fuel, & didn't have that easy - over 50 mile electric range the way that 2nd gen did. Also recharging it on solar, as way many owners do, decreases the cost of operation much much more than what the side by side comparison seems to allow for.
There's a 'switcheroo' that the author does. He talks about old car parts availability. True, on the 1st gen volt parts - they will be more scarce, but then he starts talking about the 2019 volt which is 2nd gen. Why is he talking 2nd gen Volt now? Also - weren't the 2010 through 2015 Prius susceptible to blown head gaskets & misfires from EGR plumbing loading up with carbon? That would seem to add to costs. Still, nice to see that even those old cars hold up, battery deterioration wise.

then they should have compared 2016 volt to 2016 prime. 2015 was the last year of gen 3 prius.
I wonder why they didn't use the plug in prius

2015 prius head gasket a ticking time bomb, or fixed with piston and ring update?

pretty sure the prius C battery is typically only good for 100k. I've read that volt batteries are hard to come by, although I don't think they had a high failure rate

Yes, Only 20 modules instead of 28, which wears out faster. Criminals at Toyota Stealership tried to charge my friend $4500 to replace even though its a smaller less expensive pack. Instead he bought a Sodium-Ion from Jack for $1400 and I charged him a couple few hours to install. Prius C are actually way easier to work on than other Prius. Way less work to take things apart...

Prius c (first couple photos) with 1.8L engine (text). Not sure about later photos, except they don't fit with my Gen3 memory.

As for cluelessness, do note that text author, illustrator, editor, and headline are often different people, so figuring out which to blame for various blunders can be difficult.

My son was more than satisfied with his 2015 Prius V and would have bought another Prius V but they are not sold in the US. He traded for a new 2023 RAV4 Prime. He needs the cargo space.
