You aren't the first person to confuse Vancouver, Washington, USA with Vancouver, BC, Canada. Though named after the same person, they are about 300 miles apart. Mendel is no-where near the Washington USA version, which is just across the river from Portland Oregon.

I live closer to the Canadian Vancouver than to the Washington Vancouver, but had more family and professional connections to the later.
