I can clarify this by (1) the parking brake indication coming up on the dash, (2) the car stops dead even though it is in D or R, (3) I hear the parking brake motor running when the brake kicks in, and (4) the car will not move again unless I manually press the parking brake switch to release the parking brake.
I have no idea. I don't know which sensors are disabled, but the car computer knows the door is open (indication is visible on dash) and manually disabling PKSB does nothing regarding this issue: i.e., the parking brake still kicks in when moving the car a couple of feet with a door ajar, even when PKSB is off.
The backup camera is not fed into the computer. Is this what you did? Enabling/Disabling the Parking Support Brake The Parking Support Brake function can be enabled/disabled through a customize setting. (P.540) When the PKSB (Parking Support Brake) is disabled, the driving assist information indicator (P.84) illuminates, and a message is displayed on the multiinformation display. If the PKSB (Parking Support Brake) is switched to OFF (disabled), the system will not be reenabled until ON (enabled) is selected again from the customize setting (P.540). (It remains off even if the power switch is turned to ON again after the power switch has been turned off.)
Thanks, but not sure what the rear camera has to do with this, as this is not about obstacles front or rear. It is about trying to move the car forward or backward a few feet without the driver's door 100% full closed. To answer your question, yes, I disabled PKSB. Then I immediately (and also after shutting of the car and restarting it) tried to move the car forward a foot or two. The car moved a few inches and then the parking brake kicked in to stop the car dead. This is the automatic action that I am trying to disable. But I have no idea which system controls it.
You can apologize all you want, but the loved ones of those squirrels are never going to forgive you, nor will I...
Rollaway Protection Section 5-2 Of Owner's Manual - "Driving Procedures" speaks to the conditions of why the parking brake is engaging: Parking Brake Automatic Lock Function The parking brake will be set automatically under the following conditions: The brake pedal is not depressed The driver's door is open The driver's seat belt is not fastened The shift position is in a position other than P or N The malfunction indicator lamp and brake system warning light are not illuminated Here's the likely reason this feature is baked in: "When Consumer Reports began subtracting points from the Overall Score of vehicles that lacked rollaway protection, it pushed the industry to do better. Now, all new vehicles with electronic shifters come with it—a big win for consumers. Some of these vehicles shift automatically into Park if the door is opened, and others apply the electronic parking brake. Either way, these systems prevent rollaway." .... Even so, our testing showed that several older models lacked this important safety feature. For example, the 2020 Toyota Prius .... models lacked rollaway protection, but the automakers added it the following year after CR reduced their Overall Scores."
I don't think it's an option that can be turned off. Can it be defeated might be what you're looking to do. Given that it's not TSS sensor related logic it's not anything to be found in the software menus. Perhaps if I had a need to have my door open to visually inch forward or back to a very specific spot and do that repeatedly a number of times to apply tire shine, I might fasten the seat-belt behind me and get on with it.
