So... I figured GM hybrids are the best way for the non-hybrid enthusiast to join the hybrid bandwagon and "Save" a few dollars while not bothering to change their driving style. I saw a VUE lane hopping behind me today. It's a 3-lane road and he was using all 3 lanes. He didn't get very far, in fact I managed to pass him and get quite far before he passed me again as I waited to make a left turn. Turns out, it was a VUE Hybrid driven by some kid. I think his licence plate says it all - *** JRK. (I kid you not, it's a standard plate).
The jerk drivers who never seem to get anywhere are fun to watch, in a way. The record for me is being passed by the same jerk three times within a ten mile drive. I'm driving the speed limit, never change lanes and yet end up ahead of him again somehow even though he's speeding, jumping lanes, cutting other drivers off in a big hurry to go nowhere.
If you are driving on a three-lane highway and stay in the same lane the entire time, the odds of you being in the slowest lane is one-in-three. However, if you bounce between two lanes, your odds increase to two-in-three. And if you spend time in all three lanes, you are guaranteed to be in the slowest lane for some period of time. And though there are some who insist that by bouncing between all lanes guarantees that they will be in the fastest lane at some point, if they can prove that they are always in the fastest lane when it actually is the fastest lane, they need to quit their job and take up day trading.
There is one way to surf through stop and go traffic. I used to have to deal with that kind of traffic all of the time on the way to and from work and the trick is to change lanes in to the one that just starts to move, pass a lot of cars and then change lanes again in to the one that just starts to move. The problem is that it requires some luck with your timing. I wasn't able to do it a lot of the time but sometimes, it was sweet. That's why I call it surfing. But it won't work unless it's stop and go and there are a lot of cars.
BAS - Barely Allows Savings Hope GM ramps up Two-Mode and gets rid of BAS, as it's belt-driven....how often should the belt be replaced and how much damage is done if it snaps?
It's actually a 3-lane main street (for some reason you can sorta maybe kinda call it a highway but really the limit is the same as the surface streets at 50km/h so it's not really a highway. But then again, people do 70km/h down that stretch anyway. Within a 5 km range, there are 4 or 5 speed trap hot spots in both direction.) On that street, the curb lane is the fastest believe it or not. The outer most lane is for those to turn left and yes people do try to cross 3 lanes of traffic to turn into a residential area without traffic lights. The middle lane is where everyone is and the curb lane is where the busses are (but it's not an HOV lane). So it's usually empty because people don't want to be behind the busses when it stops at the bus stops. When there isn't a bus in front of you, it's smooth sailing. No need to lane hop lol.
