Really interesting...shifting some of the 'premium' for the batteries and such to the developer and profit takeers of the infrastructure to support the industry. Oil independent in a decade...hard to imagine.

Mostly Russia and other former Soviet countries.

For a while they had plenty of their own oil fields in the Sinai peninsula, but they gave all that back to Egypt.

Go to Israel and one of the many notable things about their cities is the widespead use of solar energy. Israeli also provides first rate concentrated solar collectors. What is more mysterious is why so long before taking this step?

waiting for the transportation sector tech to be good enough? I'm surprised they haven't gone the concentrator route sooner. That tech's been around a while.

Shai Agassi got the idea of exchanging the batteries while touring Tesla motors.

Israel is a country unlike any other. the fact that they survive day to day life is amazing and has more to do with its peoples' drive to succeed.

if any country can do it, i believe they can. i mean why cant they or we? there is no real technical challenge. only takes a unified front and some money. Israel has demonstrated both characteristics 20 fold over us...
