I answered it in your other thread (no need to make so many!) 04/05 don't have it in NA. They do in Japan.
sorry just got the prius and ...wel..... you now.. so if i get a japan buildin camera i can activate it you think?
I have a 2007 Prius with the backup camera. It still requires me to look around to see how close a parked car is behind me. It shows a huge circle and a parked car looks very far away. Today, backing out of a parking space, the car parked in back and to the side looked a mile away. I hit the SUV behind me which was larger than my Prius. No damage to that car but my rear bumper is scratched and dented. I'll go the old fashioned route from now on and look around before backing out. To add, my battery died with 1300 miles on the car and had to be towed and replaced. Other than that, I love the car.
It is the classic case of "objects in your camera are closer than they appear". It is VERY wide angle. The purpose is more to see that you aren't going to back over some kid or their toys. As with any other mirror systems, you should be able to determine distance off given some practice. I did measure the 'ground behind the bumper' distance in my wife's car and it was about 18". Of course, the SUV's bumper is MUCH higher than the ground
