Has it happend to you? Yesterday, on the way home from our acountant ... fixing the bookkeeper boo boos . . . kinda in a mood of funk. There in the slow lane as I pass John Wayne Airport, another Prius ... and it looks familiar: inventor00 Orange County Prius Club "HEY !! I've seen that Prius somewhere before." Pulled up along side, jesturning to roll down the window. He's probably thinking I'm a big dufus newbie all excited just because I own a Prius. I shout, "Do you post on Prius Chat? Any who, that got me out of the funk. Way cool. Here in So, Cal, with 10's of thousands of Prius' all around, I'd think it'd be more common to happen accross a fellow PC'er. But no. It hasn't happened ... even after owning for almost 4 years. Has anyone else run accross a fellow PC'er? Regularly? A lot? Never? Maybe more likely in a tiny city? Obviously it was because the "NVENT" plate stands out, and the the big sticker did it for me to recognize it. Just curious. Maybe I AM a big dufus
lol.. wait til inventer00 comes online. No, I've only bumped into Frank a few times (can't miss an 03 Prius with foam insulation). Haven't seen any other PCers
There you go! That's one. '03 is a good 'stand-out' feature ... different body style ... presuming frank's avatar was his 03.
I went to the Chicago airport once and saw a Prius with a familiar plate. I don't remember now what it was, (something like "no gas" or "electric"). When I came back home, I went through Priuschat to see if I can find who that is, because I thought that was his/her avatar also. Had no luck.
Yes, it's pretty much something I wouldn't do unless I recognized the car. It seems to be as rare as I figured.
I've never seen another Prius with mods that PC'ers typically get (body side moldings, upgraded tires, shark fin antenna), let alone a fellow PC'er. Beginning to think we don't exist.
Only at meet-ups and Hybridfest. I've never recognized anyone on the road before. Though with my stickers - especially the PRIUSCHAT one - I would be more inclined to think that I would be the one recognized.
Tony... Your mention of the "meet-ups" (& I've come to realize you do that out in Chicagoland), do you have any idea of how one could search the member database by State to see if an attempt to create a 'group' that could meet occasionally would be worthwhile??? i.e. All the p/c members in the upper half of Maine??? Presuming there'd be more than one? (Maine barely has 1 mill total living souls.....) ( :>) Thanks, Wes Shaw
Maybe Tony they DO recognize you, but don't want anyone to know they know you . . . or is that just happening to me Hey, I'd lika a PC sticker ... do they come with the stiffening plate, or what do you have to do?
Well, we were in Prius Mecca today (Olympia, WA)... seriously, there were so many Prius, I thought that I might have missed a convention! I was in downtown, and cross town, and all over town... in downtown, there were SO MANY Prius!!! all colors. So, if you saw a Superwhite Prius with a shark fin, and decals, it was me I didn't get waves from anyone
There are location-specific groups here on PriusChat : Local Prius Club Main Forum - PriusChat Forums I don't see one for Maine; perhaps you can start it.
Yeah, I get that a lot. I got mine from Danny when he got his Prius at Grossinger Toyota in Chicagoland. I'm not sure how someone can get one these days. That reminds me, I need to work with someone to make ChicagoPriusGroup decals.
Thanks! Maybe I too can get recognized by a fellow PC'er finally. (As Steve Martin said, when the phone books arived ...) I AM somebody!
I was at that same gathering. And Danny did have a pretty interesting story about that trip - he had posted online that he was coming to Chicago on that particular weekend to finally buy a Prius, he probably mentioned the color and the dealership. So he was driving around afterwards, and a woman jumps out of the car behind him at a red light, asks him to roll down the window and asks "Are you Danny?". Turns out she saw the dealer plates still on the new black Prius, knew he was going to be there that weekend, and made a bold jump to conclusions. So he was recognized even though no pictures of his car were yet online. There were probably half as many Prii on the road then, so seeing one was still a minor novelty.
Thanks Tony.... I've tried your link and see a "New England" one.... I'll visit it when time permits and, again as a greehorn to this, will perhaps try to precipitate one for Eastern Coastal Maine as I gain more 'experience' on this site... Wes Shaw
Haven't heard back yet ... what do they say, "priuschat.com" ? If THAT doesn't get a "HEY!" out of PC'ers ... then I better brush my teeth ... both of 'em
