i have a non touring... and i have these partial hubcaps on my car.. what are they for ? i read it's for aerodynamics somewhere.. is this true?? cause it looks ugly as hell so i pulled 'em off.... it looks so much better now
We can only assume that they are for aerodynamics; otherwise Toyota wouldn't have taken the time and effort to put them on. Since the main purpose of just about everything on the car is to reduce drag, improve aerodynamics, and increase mileage, there's got to be a reason for everything. But like all things, some people like them and some don't. I took mine off a couple years ago and have them hanging in my garage.
you know.. i don't think it's aerodynamics cause if it was.. then why not just produce 'em that way... whether metal or plastic .... should be about the same... unless you're considering the frictional surface... in other words.. my make it plastic / metal when they can produce it monolithically
I think it probably is just to protect the wheels from minor scrapes from curbs. Better to scratch an easily replaceable plastic ring than an expensive aluminum allow wheel. YOMV - your opinion may vary.
