Never underestimate the damaging power of the sun. We think it is the rain and the snow that destroy our stuff. The fact of the matter is that a huge percentage of the damage, be it roof material, siding, doors window etc. are due to excessive sun exposure.

The sun is our friend in the solar world, but it can also be our enemy.

That's precisely why I actually enjoy temps of -40 with -55 windchills! True enough you can freeze your pointy bits right off, but all the insects, creepy-crawly, and slithering things I really can't stand wouldn't last 5 mins in our temps

I am worried if we get warmer in winter. Once the termites and cockroaches are comfy, we're doomed

Give me -25c over +25c any day. I can work unglove (for a while) at -25, but I have trouble at +25. No bugs, the wood splits easily, the solar panels put out more,,,,

I'm more creeped out by mosquitoes, fleas and ticks.

Ever try to split firewood at +30 C? Bugs buzzing around you, sweat dripping off your face, dizzy from the humidity? Poplar especially, I swear the sap just glues it together. You can swing the axe until you pass out and the poplar will just laugh at you

Especially when the temps have been -30 C for a few days, everything frozen very nicely, one whack and the axe slices through

I'm not doing any work today as it's a holiday here, "Louis Riel Day." Temps right now are hovering around -25 C, strong NW winds making it feel like -35 C

Trust me, there are ZERO mosquitoes, fleas, or woodticks out today. That almost makes the windchill ok

Try splitting Birch in May, after it has set the bark! We don't get the bugs until Mid June, save for the black flies!

No thank you. If I had to, I'd probably just rush out and get a log splitter

Speaking of which, Princess Auto here has a sale on.
