In my opinion, no, eggs, milk, and cheese are just as contaminated, disease laden, and unhealthy as meat. I've been vegetarian for 5 years now, and vegan for close to 2 years. I rarely feel "sick"... colds last about 2 days, when I get them, which is very rare (like when everyone I worked with had hacking coughs for two weeks, and I had one day of a little bit of *cough* and then was fine). "Stomach" or "24 hour" flu is usually food poisoning. I've not had that for... well, 5 years, anyway. I'm still built reminiscent of a Mac truck, so I'm not wasting away due to lack of nutrients *sigh*. Sites to consider: goveg.com notmilk.com
Ditto to all that. Studies showed that for every $1.00 you spent now on education you'd save $3.00 in future penal system costs. Like I said...penny wise....pound foolish.
We had a number of teachers at my school told today that they would not have jobs at our school next year. A new middle school is opening up in the area and we are losing kids. Our enrollment is also going down. Seems L.A. is too expensive for many families so they are moving east to the Lancaster/Palmdale area.
I've been home sick yesterday and today. Yes, I do pick up the occasional bug courtesy of the student population and thank goodness I have sickleave to take care of myself. Friday and Monday were both holidays on the district calendar. I also post during lunch and the occasional break. My lunches are not set but move according to the library schedule. Thank goodness I do not work in a fascist big brother organization although wikipedia is blocked from the district tech office.
For me, 1996 was the best time to stop eating meat. I've never regretted it a bit. My wife became a vegetarian about 10 years prior to me. Gotta just love the lifestyle every time the new has an article about ecloi virus, tainted meat, etc.......
Yeah, '92 was a good year to stop eating meat too I hear that next year will also be a good year to stop. Also, the year after that. etc.
Not intended as a flame, but it's not special ed that's bankrupting the schools. It's the war in Iraq, and the military generally. Yep, that's one of my favorites also. Available here. When did they start serving hamburgers instead of food in school cafeterias? They weren't doing it when I was in school. (Yeah, I'm an old fart now. I'll turn 60 with the dolphins around Bimini this summer.)
Probably around the time ketchup became a vegetable. They have some awful stuff. Pizza bagels, some sort of cross between a taco and a pirogi. I really try to avoid anything with meat. To their credit they DO have a salad bar and some students voluntarily choose that. Thank goodness the cheese enchiladas have no meat in them whatsoever. I rarely get the 30 min.. duty free lunch I'm entitled to by contract so I bring my lunch. There is a refrigerator in the library workroom and I can keep some things cold. There is also a microwave in there. But I don't put things in there very often as it's a school refrigerator and some people take things a "public domain" without consideration that might be other people's lunches. I usually eat at the circulation desk because if I can't finish my lunch in the 10-15 min. I can squeeze into my day I end up finishing while I do lunch supervision and check out books. This is why I mostly bring a sandwich. Boy, I hope Hormel didn't buy any meat from Westland/Hallmark. I've got a package of bologna in the fridge.
My GF says that their school was one that got some of the recalled meat and she is pretty sure that she ate some of it. :dizzy::twitch:
man. not having kids and being well past the public k-12 education system really gets one out of the loop. this is going to get more consideration in where i take a job when i graduate. i hope things work out for you, godiva. sounds like your contract will keep you protected. don't let all this take away from your graduation preparations.
Not at all. I finished making my masters hood last weekend. It came out beautiful! I'm putting off the gown until after I finish my National Board portfolio and my master's eportfolio. I'll be using spring break to catch up on both. If I finish the gown I'll post pics of the complete regalia. I'm taking a certain sick pride in being the second National Board Certified Teacher Librarian this school has let go. Not exactly a record you can brag about. Especially since they are entering their seventh year of program improvement under No Child Left Behind.
They already tried that and it didn't work, there needs to be a balance. Sadly, in human nature we always wait until things get really, really bad before doing anything and then we over react. Wildkow
Good grief now you’re attacking ketchup!?!?! IMHO food is just a vehicle to get ketchup to your mouth. Wildkow
