I walked into my local Rite Aid pharmacy yesterday and saw a new display of 5" diecast cars on sale for $3.99. "How cute," I thought, "but of course they'll never carry Prius models." I only had time to complete that one thought before I caught sight of the several shelves full of Prii of all colors. WOW. So if you have Rite Aid near you (and assuming this is not just a local buying decision by my neighborhood Rite Aid), this is a great opportunity to pick one up cheap. It appears to be the Kinsmart model, the one whose front doors open and which is equipped with a pull-back spring (or as I call it, "regenerative reverse gear").
Out of curiosity, I went to the Rite Aid website to locate a store near me & was amazed to find that the nearest store (to Mileaukee, WI) is only 82 miles away in Michigan! For the geographically challenged, this means my nearest store is only an 80 mile swim across Lake Michigan. Br-r-r-r! Wait - maybe the lake is frozen over - NOT!
I went to my local store today to find they do not carry it. Perhaps one of the others near my office. I'll check tomorrow.
hehe... got connections... i was able to 'acquire' a red prius just like mine... i have it sitting on my work desk... mine was acquired at rite aid, however, i have seen them on ebay too... and i believe someone used to sell them on here somewhere...
I just ordered one from some dude's online storefront. It was the cheapest one that I could find. (I paid a premium to get it in black.)
Hi! I found several at my Rite Aid today (Macomb, Michigan) They were in a stand alone type rack display. There were quite a few Prii--silver, red, a turquoise-blue, and the beigey color. I bought a silver one, even though MY Prius is white. They were 3.99 and I think they're cute! I will look for a white one at other locations. Prius Prime :car:
Ha! Found some at the Murrieta Hot Springs Rd/Alta Murrieta (Murrieta Ca) location today. They had white, beige and blue. Scored a blue one. $3.99
I bought one of these in red at the Philadelphia Auto Show - and yes, it's made by Kinsmart. At the time, I was hoping to buy a red Prius when it came time for buying the real thing. I ended up with a blue one. I'll probably be near the Rite-Aid in Abington this weekend. It's a bit larger than most Rite-Aids (it's in an ex-Woolworth), and I have seen die-cast vehicles there in the past. I'll have to look for a die-cast blue Prius. I almost bought a Greyhound bus from this selection as a gag 70th birthday gift for my oldest first cousin because one of my earliest memories of him was seeing him off on a Trailways bus after he had come to visit us. Greyhound has since bought the Trailways division that supplied the bus he took that time. The red model is now sitting on my desk at work, where I have a selection of other models of personal interest to me. One of them is a sporty, two-door version of a 1998 Acura Integra that I found in a KB Toy Store. My last car was a 1998 Acura four-door sedan. I also have a yellow and white 1958 Chevrolet 2-door hardtop that I got in a Wal-Mart. My parents had a 1958 Chevrolet Brookwood station wagon in two-tone blue when I was young. (The Brookwood was the station wagon version of the lowest-end of the three Chevrolet models. The station wagon version of one of the higher-end Chevys was called the Nomad. I think the highest-end Chevy was the Impala, while the Biscayne was one of the lower-end models.) Being an aunt gives me a good excuse to visit toy departments, although the youngest person of whom I am an aunt just turned 12 a few days ago. (He called my choice of a Toyota "cool".)
If anyone who is planning on going to Hybridfest would pick up a little Prius for me I would greatly appreciate it. I will repay you with either hard cash or a round or two of drinks at a sports bar near Hybridfest that's fun to go to at night. If they have Tideland Pearl, that would be nice. If not, Silver.
It arrived today! (Two days isn't too bad since I chose the 15 day uber-saver shipping.) I love it! It's going on my desk at work tomorrow.
Hey! I found one to a local Rite Aid in Huntington, NY. My 'real' Prii is seaside pearl. The one from Rite Aid is beige. Oh well. It's fun. Thanks for this thread Marvin
I believe they still do. I have...um...several. Rufaro has a post somewhere in the commercial section, and will mail a 'WeePri' anywhere in the mainland US, I think. Edit: Check out the first sticky post in the 'Private Sales' forum.
Hi! I am planning on going to Hybridfest and (if you haven't gotten one by then) you can have the silver one I picked up. My son got me a white one! I'll just have to remember to bring it ... Maybe I can buy some to bring for everyone--but not too many, don't want to add any extra weight to the car. Is Tideland Pearl the blue?? I can't remember. They are fun to play with!
I wasn't able to find one in the Rite Aid in the similarly-named Huntingdon Valley, PA, nor in the larger Abington store. My real one is also Seaside Pearl. I may end up ordering the blue one from that online storefront someone else posted. But at least I have the red one to keep me occupied.
Does this web site (Prius Chat) sell any Prius fun stuff, such as t-shirts? Or coffee mugs, a ubiquitous item which I personally find to be totally useless because I don't drink hot drinks of any kind, even on the coldest winter day, but which so many other people love to own?
I got mine at the local dealer parts Dept. when I went to pick up some filters. If you're in LA, Northridge Toyota had them a few months ago. Haven't been back since than. I think they were $7-8 or so. Cute car, wrong wheels, and it is REAR wheel drive!
