I'm thinking of getting a Prius but my concern is the car is silent at low speed so pedestrian, especially blind people who rely on their hearing can't hear a Prius coming. What do you think?
I dont think it important for the blind to hear you as you are doing the driving and are hopefully *not* blind! I want to put a semi truck air horn on my Pri... *evil grin*
if your worried about making more noise why not just take a blow torch to the muffler or put on one of them cool 3 inch crackle pipes off your 1 inch exhaust pipe. You can even wake up the neighbors as you drive buy. Or hell go all out and get a kicking amp for the trunk and thump the blind out the way. :loco:
if blind people relyed solely on hearing, half of them wouldnt be alive, a lot of new cars are real quiet.
it's called 'Vehicular Darwinism' it weeds out the idiots that shouldn't be out there already! Trust me, pedestrians hear me coming, even in a Prius, because if people are crossing in front of me, I mash the accelerator, and the gasoline engine will kick in. Even a Prius at WFOT sounds like a jet, not quite like the Lexus RX400h, but they're pretty loud with the engine and motor opened up!
Toyota should modify the exhaust-system of the Prius to make it sound like a Harley. Loud pipes save lives!!
This is great. We can have a speaker emitting various car sounds. Isn't it great to have a Prius with a Ferrari growl?
Even the Prius has tyres. Have you noticed lately the exhaust sticks out the back of most cars and the loudest noise a modern car makes when approaching is from the tyres?
