That is usually why most people do not go there in the summer- it is a desert you know... make certain any rental car has air conditioning and bring a sweater as some rooms in the casinos can be chilly. I was there last June for a conference and it stayed above 100 degrees every day.
The rule of thumb is +100 deg from memorial day to labor day. How far above varies with the degree of global warming. Whoops.
In Seville, Spain, in summer, 100 degrees feels like 80 due to the low humidity. I kid you not! As long as you drink enough water and wear a sun hat it's the best weather I've ever been in. (In summer that is; winters are damp and gloomy.) I wonder if Vegas is as dry? There are "comfort index" corrections to temperature which take humidity into account, just as wind chill takes wind into account in cold climates. It would be interesting to see the comfort index by month, as well as the temperature. However, going back and forth between excessive air conditioning and extreme heat is a hard shock to the body. In Seville you are not going in and out of frigid casinos all the time.
Humidity in the summer in Las Vegas is very low, around 18% IIRC. There are occassional thunder storms in August which raise the humidity, but nothing like say, Houston or Miami, which I find far more uncomfortable. The problem with Las Vegas in the summer is that because perspiration evaporates so quickly, you never get that hot, sweat-soaked feeling, so you can easily spend too much time in the heat and become dehydrated without realizing it. You can safely assume that any rental car you rent in Las Vegas has A/C. You'd have to be renting some kind of specialty vehicle to not get A/C. All of the regular rental inventory from the major companies is going to have A/C.
Yes. In that kind of climate you have to know to drink plenty of water, and to drink before you feel thirsty.
HOT. Notice i live in las vegas. Those avg are about right, 108-112 is normal. Last year we had 112 avg 118 37 days out of the year I have seen it hit 124 here back in 2001-2002...so yeah hot has hell, and pollen season starts in april, ince coat on your car...and your better change air filter at 15,000 mi down here. Lot's of dust, even though our city has become more a metro area, still ton of dust in the air. Anyway it's hot down here, so either run A/C or don't.. I didnt last year mainly because i wanted better then 45mpg(which didn't happen because we have some jerk drivers around these parts, you will see.) more reason why did matt buy his first black car?!?! crazy! it is about 87 right now..kinda of cool for this time of year. But the interior is steamy when you get in..the sun here is blazin!
+! this man know's what he is talking about. It's dry as a bone out here, but still...it's HOT HOT...just drink water, and wear sun screen you will be fine. Humid heat is worse, I lived in okinawa japan from 89-94, 79-84avg temps year round, except winter which was about in the mid 40's at the most...but man those 80's 90's with humidity where killer! WE some times have 40% humid in vegas during monsoon season...and it its pretty harsh. Luckily the city has gone great length's to improve the drainage systems here, because no less then 7 years ago this town would flood like crazy...it's been a while sine the improvements...plus lack of really heavy rains.
We've had a second home out at The Lakes in west Las Vegas since 2000, so I know a bit more about living there than most non-residents. There is a lot of solar gain through the windshield when you're parked, and the hotter the interior gets, the harder your A/C has to work to cool everything down once you return to your car. A sun shade and 30% Huper Optik tint will really help a lot in keeping interior temps down when parked in the sun.
