Got any tips to share? I'm just diving into this new world of video. My limited experience so far was basically just shooting some sample footage (MTS files) and rendering the output onto DVD+R to both standard digital and Blu-Ray format. That all works fine, but how to best share it online is a mystery. By the way, the highest quality capture (4 GB = 31 minutes) looks absolutely fantastic! I'd like stuff (Prius related, of course) that looks really good on YouTube... which I believe takes a variety of input formats and converts in to FLV (Flash Video) for streaming to users afterward. And I'd like to be able to offer a decent quality DIVX download, without the file being too massive. .
Get a mac. Seriously. iMovie will do just that with minimal fuss and effort. You can export to anything supported by QuickTime, and it even has a bunch of pre-sets for common things like web pages, iPod/iPhone, etc. Been using it with my Canon AVCHD cam for a while now.
All edit software offers that. That point is also getting the choice of specifying sizes, framerates, bitrates, and such yourself. After all, that's why some cameras offer manual shutter, f-stop, and focus. I would like to know what setting choices others have made. .
I heard somewhere that the conversion to web video will produce different results depending on the frame rate you chose for the original recording. I don't know if I have the details right but it goes something like this: Web video frame rates are usually 15, so if you can record in 30p your video will look better after being converted to 15 than if you started with 60i or 24 fps. Wish I could be more helpful.
