I know you all have noticed the wave of trolls lately. I sure have. On one thread I counted 4 in one thread appearing to work together! or right in the middle of an unrelated thread a troll makes an anti prius post about the superiority of the H2 hummer! as if! Do we need more moderators or just stricter rulings from Danny maybe? Any other forum Ive seen acts quickly to ban this as it makes the whole forum lose good members who just dont want the hassles. Can we get more proactive in dumping the obvious trolls please??:spider:
It takes barely a minute to delete and ban all posts...I think we have plenty of help but we need them reported ASAP when you see them. ALSO...DO NOT QUOTE the trolls!!! Quoted messages are not deleted. Just report and don't respond and we'll get rid of them in short order. Have you seen more today? I banned about 1/2 dozen or more this morning...
I would also just add that when an obvious troll or spammer starts a new thread and people start responding to them, even just to note that they have been reported, that it keeps that thread bumped up in the thread list. You can just report them without adding a response to the thread.
Actually one response in the thread is necessary to let everyone know that the moron has been reported. We don't want Danny, Tideland, Evan and Tony to get inundated with reports. A simple "reported to mods" should be there. TheForce is usually one of the first on the scene.
:yo: The only reason I usually get to the posts first is because I'm on most of the day and sometimes most of the night. I have nothing better to do. :bored:
With the new software here it doesn't even require a note "reported to mods" b/c if the same post is reported by multiple people they all go into a single thread for us...so we don't actually get innundated. That said, if one individual troll is reported just once we can delete all their posts and ban them in 2 simple steps now. So what I'd suggest is just a post saying "troll123 reported to mods". There's no reason to report each individual post made by a single troll.
Click the small Exclamation mark in the little red triangle in the lower left corner of the offending post. ==> See here: http://priuschat.com/forums/priuschat-website-questions/25749-how-tell-troll.html
I do my fair share of reporting trolls and spam, but I wish there were a change in the software that if a newbie is reported to the mods, the software would send the newbie into a sort of Purgatory status where their posts become inaccessible and they are automatically locked out from posting any new posts until reviewed by danny or a mod . . . provided they don't banish the offender for life. Instantaneous spam and troll policing with mod oversight.
I think I reported a couple recently. Since I don't sleep through the night anymore, I can sometimes report them if they start around 3 or 4 AM. I think it is really important to not respond. I usually look at the join date, then the # of posts, then the vehicle info, then the appropriateness of the forum they posted their message in. Usually one or more of those things will clue me in that they're just stirring up trouble or trying to sell me something I wouldn't want in the first place. When the name-calling starts then I know they're a troll. Just report them then let the mods decide what to do with them. That's what they get the big bucks for, right?
I confess, I don't really know what the definition of a troll is,,,I suspect I may be consider one is some circles. As a point to remember however, just because someone says something the majority disagree with doesn't make one a troll. For to long in this country we have discounted "the other" and as such we have become a polarized society. I enjoy reading (and writing) the thoughts of others, perhaps expanding my horizon a bit, and hopefully expanding the horizons of a few along the way? Icarus
If that's the definition of a troll that you are using than fine. But I've seen some posters labeled as trolls because their positions weren't popular/easy to believe. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water. Dissenting opinions are necessary and beneficial - remember that.
It would be useful to have a "dead horse" lock on threads too. That way the subject matter is still searchable but old threads aren't constantly revived to the new post pages.
Dissenting posters are labeled as trolls only if they make troll-like posts. Sometimes it isn't easy to tell if a poster is serious, or just making trouble, in which case they can be mistaken for a troll. Tom
Does the PriusCHat store carry any of that spray? Or do we need Naptown to set up a group buy? :yield: Edit: Napster, you obviously already have a can of the stuff. How is it applied? To the keyboard? The USB port? I'm guessing it was formulated for PCs, but will it work on an Apple? Post another picture with the can rotated 180 deg. so we can read the instructions. (Oh by the way, you have very pretty hands... the right one is any way.)
