The Lehrer report tonight had a segment on car sales in June. Toyota was down 21%, Honda was up 1%, they said, due to hybrid sales (Honda). ?? Toyota is way ahead of Honda in hybrid sales. Prius is the hottest car in the world, right now. Go figure.
Honda sales are up because of the Fit and Civic - they are one of the few manufactures that can keep up with the demand for their small, efficient cars.
That's actually *why* Toyota sales over all are down; because everyone going into Toyota dealerships now wants a Prius, but they're unable to produce enough to keep up with demand. So while the figures may look bad to Wall Street, back in Toyota City where it matters, they know the score.
Presently, the Tesla founder himself can not even get a Tesla. That's got to be the hardest car to get.
