China is capable of sending a manned mission to the Moon within the next decade, if it so wishes, Nasa administrator Michael Griffin has said. Should we try to beat them, join them, or ignore them?
I think: "we should be there now" = "Beat them" :smash: whereas: "we don't got no money" = "join them":grouphug:
But, they are going with OUR money, so technically we are already joining them. Hahahaha But it will be ok, they can set up the first Chinese Food restaurant on the moon, and if we ever get some money, we will have a place to go eat.
Your poll is pointless. We have already beat them by a few decades. Remember the Apollo missions? We've been there, planted our flag, and claimed the moon as our own. Why would we want to go back? Let's go to Mars and claim it too! It's not like we have anything better to spend trillions of dollars on. (note the sarcasm)
True - but - we haven't done anything so grand and visionary since the '60s / '70s. When and if China does go, it's going to feel a bit strange if we don't do something equally big. That said, I'm not an advocate of big government programs.
If Reagan and Bush hadn't gone on wild spending sprees, I wouldn't mind another space race, the last one accomplished a lot, and brought a lot of innovations in science and technology, but the country can't afford to be first or the best in space anymore. Wish it wasn't so, but this country has wasted a LOT of money on nothing for these past 8 years.
WEll, we already did beat them a very long time ago. I'm just surprised that we have not been back sooner. With the way things are going here on Earth we have a lot of stupid people that will probably blow the darn planet up before we have figured out how to live somewhere else and pollute it like we have polluted this planet. The moon is probably very happy we have not been back, yet
Reagan's "wild spending spree" resulted in the collapse of the Soviet Union. Buh-bye, Mo-Fo's. I think that was a worthwhile accomplishment, maybe even better than the moon shots back in the late 60s-early70s when we put men on the moon with computers that had the calculating capacity of a Nintendo 64.
The collaspe of the Soviet Union was going to happen with spending or not, they were already falling apart, Reagan didn't have to go on a Wild Spending Spree of DEBT. Reagan was the main reason that things have been going terribly wrong since his reign, and the second main reason we have the huge debt that we currently have, NOTHING to be proud of. Oh and the Russians have been doing real well at spreading nuclear to make money and in selling oil at the new US rates since the breakup, they are very pleased that we were stupid to bankrupt ourselves, after bankrupting them.
