i need help I did oil change was idling my pryus with the key in my pocket,my wife got into the car and drove off (THE KEY WAS IN MY POCKET). is it normal for the pryus once its started to keep running or been driven away without the key in range? how do i fix this? mino54
This is normal. You don't fix it. Once started, the Prius (SKS models) can be driven until shut off. After that it won't restart without the key. Tom
Yes, with the car on, the ICE could start at any time. If is starts while you've got all the oil drained.....
I'd say better communication with Wife would help. Perhaps a cover or tape over the steering wheel that indicates a Maintenance downtime interval is in play. Perhaps a traffic cone in the seat would be a hint. Or, some other indication not to take the car.
I'm going to make a wild guess that the OP had started the Prius after filling it with oil, so that he could check the oil level. Otherwise, wouldn't she have noticed his legs sticking out from under the car?
