My 2009 Prius has an annoying, high-pitched whining background noise when the Navigation system's voice ... "clicks in," so to speak. I'm guessing that it's maybe somewhere around 8KHz or so. When the voice is about to say something, that whining starts, and after it finishes talking, it stops. Is it just me, or do any of the rest of you hear that too? It's quiet enough to drown out with music, if need be, but it sure would be nice if it weren't there...
It's normal. I suspect the noise is crosstalk from the NAV computer. It's not a big thing, just slightly annoying. Tom
I don't think ours does that. I don't remember hearing it. We don't use the Nav all that often (PITA), but we did use it just Saturday, and I don't remember hearing the whine.
No squeal with my 09. The voice is very clear. Try turning down the volume a little and see if that helps.
The detection of the whine or squeal is related to the driver's ears. Once they get old enough, it takes more than a little cross talk. I suspect this issue is like asparagus pee: everyone gets it when they eat asparagus, but some people can't smell it. It's still there, but your nose doesn't work. Tom
Yup, I get it too in my '08. Very annoying. It's most noticeable just before she starts to initially speak a phrase.
