On an '07 with HID, which way to turn the adjusters to raise the projected beam? I've seen this covered here before, but the comments were somewhat confusing.

Hey, lenjack, Before you start mess'g with the headlight adjustment, I would have you check first to see that the HID leveling sensor is work'g properly (especially since you said they need to go upward). Even though you may not have any warning lights on for this (as I didn't), the failure of this leveling sensor (for the HID's only) typically tips the headlights way down. I could only see about 20 feet ahead of me (does this sound about the same in your case?). To check if the sensor is function'g, point your Prius towards a wall or the garage door & turn on the headlights. Use something to mark where the beams are aimed. You can do the next part alone, but it may be easier if you have a helper of sufficient weight (a good sized adult rather than a light weight child). You or your helper kneel on the rear bumper or just inside the hatch area & watch what the headlight beams do on the verticle surface you have them aimed at. Immediately upon the kneeling in the rear, the light beams should tip upwards, but then after a second or two they should tip back down to the original marked areas. When you get back off the rear of the car, the headlights should immediately tip down below the marks first then slowly return to your original marks. If this doesn't happen then your sensor is faulty. If you're still within the 3 yr/36,000 mile warranty period, have the sensor replaced with the part number that has a "G' suffix after it on the part packaging (mine failed at 13,000 miles & with no warn'g lights). If you're outside of the warranty limits you can take the sensor (a $300 part) off of the left side of the rear axle to the body & take it apart & try to repair it yourself (as some here have successfully done---there are photos & instructions here somewhere). I would check the sensor's operation before doing individual adjustments of the headlights themselves. Ken (in Bolton,Ct)
It's completely clear. It calls out the direction you face, and which way to turn the adjusters. What part of the instructions are confusing? Tom
My recently purchased Haynes Manual for the car is in error. It has the procedure completely reversed. In other words, the manual say clockwise raises the beam. I'll drop them a note.
They were probably talking about which way to spin the car: you hold the adjuster in place and turn the Prius round and round. Tom
