Another government handout to assist a car company make the cars they should have started building 12 months ago or more. HOLDEN has announced it will use $179 million in government funding to build a new four-cylinder car at its Adelaide plant. Prime Minister Kevin Rudd today announced the Federal Government will invest $149 million over three years and the State Government will provide a further $30 million to enable the production of a front-drive vehicle fuelled by diesel and petrol, AdelaideNow reports. Pat, The new "Delta," interesting: petrol, diesel, an hybrid power options all in one platform. :cheer2: If it looks like the artists impression, I will either: * eat my hat, * change my avatar to a platypus, or * fly to OZ, buy one, and take you for a ride. Your choice.
Might look like this a bit. Saw this at the Adelaide Motor show, my son has pictures of it. By patsparks, shot with FE270,X815,C510 at 2008-12-22 By patsparks at 2008-12-22
So, the Canadian government caved in and is offering $4.2 billion to the Big Three. Now your gov caved in to offer Holden some low hanging fruit to make a car they should have made a long time ago I'm seeing a trend here
Don't forget the Swedes. I see the same trend, governments want to keep jobs in their districts. The new Holden will be a variation of the Chevy Cruze. The Cruze is built on the delta platform which is GM's new global C-segment platform. It also appears that the US will be the last market to get this car. All fine and dandy, but at what point is it cheaper to just nationalize the car company and turn the workers into Civil Servants?
That is what the old USSR did, and the quality and volumes went down. Unfortunately, Civil Servants seem to spend more time worrying about the process and not about the output. Hmmmm.. I seem to remember reading in another thread that the UAW run shops also seem to be concerned with the process and not trying to do someone else's job, so in this case, maybe it will not change a thing, apart from the taxpayer footing the bill.
