In 'ready' mode and parking brake on, it charges from the high voltage battery then? Or, the engine kicks on for this?
The DC-to-DC converter will charge the 12 vdc aux battery, while in Ready. The gasoline engine will start as required to keep the NiMH battery charged
To clarify the above, the traction battery connects to the DC to DC converter input. The output of the converter is ~13.8VDC and keeps the 12V battery charged. When the traction battery SOC declines sufficiently, the gasoline engine starts up to spin MG1. MG1 AC current flows through the inverter to become DC and charge the traction battery.
