Australia to get cut down Next Gen Prius?

    Hey Guys,

    this is my 1st post in this forum.

    I saw the next gen Prius reveal in Detriot online, and I think its looks really good (well the model with the 17" wheels, not the other crappy ones).

    After reading some Australian Car Websites, there was talk that Toyota Australia WOULD NOT be selling the Gen3 Prius in Australia with:

    Adaptive Cruse Control
    Park Assist
    Lane Keep Assist.

    The only thing they will have will be the Pre-Collision System.

    Now this can be seen on the Toyota Australia website.

    They dont list the other features that were mentioned in Detriot.

    Currently in Australia there are 2 models of the Prius. There is talk that Toyota Australia will introduce 3 models of the Prius.

    Now does anyone know here which model (models) they will have with the 17" alloys?

    Due to Australias Climate (very sunny), will they perhaps have the solar roof as standard?

    What are peoples ideas for the Australian Prius?

    Even pricing would be intresting? Due to the Honda Insight coming out late 2009, will Toyota re think how much they ask for the Prius in Australia?

    They're really pushing the pre-collision system, eh? Even in Canada, where expensive options aren't usually offered on Toyota models, they're offering PCS with the Prius.

    I'll let you know after I see the new Prius on Saturday.
    Are you going to the Motor Show? I'll be there from 9:00AM Saturday, look for the short fat bloke hanging around the Prius display with a tape measure, a note pad and a camera.
    I see it has headlight washers and mirror mounted indicators.
    I doubt the solar roof will be standard but likely part of the iTech package.
    I suspect the base model will be $37400.

    With the talk that Toyota Australia is going to have 3 Models in the Australian Prius Line Up now, im curious.

    But with the Toyota website only listing the Pre Collision System and none of the other options that same radar uses, I have a feeling us Aussies are going to miss out on the other stuff.

    Shame, because VW are rolling out the Self Parking system on the New Golf (Rabbit for the Americans), which will also be at the Melbourne Motorshow on Friday.

    I am working on Friday, however I might head down after work.

    I think I will be making a few trips there this year. My old man is looking at getting some form of mid life crisis car, my mate is looking at getting a car, and I am starting to look for cars I want to aim to get around late 2010...

    I just hope Toyota Australia have pricing and release dates ready for the new Prius for Australia.

    I wonder if it will be in Right Hand Drive too? or if we will get the same cars that have been on display in America?

    oh! I have seem pics from Detroit and Chicago motorshows, what is it with the blue glowing Toyota Logo? is that just what happens when the flash goes off? or is the Toyota Logo always glowing blue?

    oh! and those LED lights that are being used? are they Day Time Running Lights? like on the Audis? or is it something else?

    It doesn't glow, it just looks like it does in photos.
    The LEDs are actually the headlights, yes they have come a long way from the LEDs in that early digital watch you had to push a button to get it to display the time haven't they?

    How many here are old enough to remember those red LED watch displays? Then there were the LED calculators too.

    Hey patsparks, is there anychance that you can please ask the people on Friday about Toyotas plans for how many Prius Models they will have in their line up in Australia, and also ask them about the missing:

    Adaptive Cruse Control
    Park Assist
    Lane Keep Assist

    from the Toyota Australia website, and if its just a typo, or if Australians will be missing out on these features?

    Yep, those questions were a given, even though there is no way I would buy (could afford) those options I was going to ask for everyone's curiosity on PC.

    Any idea of how much the 2010 Prius will cost in Australia? The current model's already more than 37K, I just hope that they don't make it over 40K with all those new gadgets and tech.

    If you want the gadgets and tech you will be paying for them.
    You can currently pay $46,900 for the iTech model with all the current bells and most of the whistles. I would expect you will pay a similar or bigger price for all the tinsel on a 3G Prius.
    Don't call it a 2010 in Australia, it will be released in 2009.

    I suspect a base model will cost about the same as the current base model Iconic Prius. I'll post this information when I find out, if they will tell me at the Motor Show.

    My LCD watch has a light in it and I don't have to press a button in daylight to see it! In fact I CAN see the time in day light!

    I'm thinking of a Sinclair Executive, which was first made in 1972.

    Sinclair's strength was in making cheap designs. His drawback was that he made them a bit too cheap, often compromising them too much. The Sinclair C5 has caused problems for pretty much all subsequent electric vehicles in the minds of British consumers; it was small and slow. His miniaturisation habit tended to cause reliability problems in the resulting products.
