Tokyo — TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION (TMC) announces it has added to its Pre-crash Safety technologies a radar system that can detect probable front-side collisions, and rear seats that prepare occupants for front- and rear-end collisions. These world-first*1 technologies are to debut in a Toyota vehicle scheduled for launch in Japan in the near future. TOYOTA: News Releases Just when you think PCS can't be improved any further.
Is this going to be part of the PCS offered on the 2010 Prius, or is this just being announced as a further (and later) enhancement of what would be in the 2010?
Announcement says a future car. Gen III only has 1 front radar, not the side sensors shown in the announcement. With all the related seat gadgetry, I would guess a Lexus.
I doubt it'll debut on the 2010 Prius. We'll get the basic PCS. There's the A-PCS (A for advanced) which includes the camera for the front PCS and an additional radar for rear collision detection as well as the face recognition. Then after all that, there's this new one haha.
