How poorly run is a Church if a "relative" few can get away with that. How fubar'd is that church when they go all-out to cover it up? Is that in "gods name" or is that in the name of a majority of pedophiles who want to keep f***ing little boys? In any normal organization, if a bunch of pedophiles were caught f***ing little boys, the peds would be in jail for life. The organization would probably suffer such bad publicity it would fold Instead, they perpetuated and institutionalized f***ing little boys. I'm now wondering why - as a little kid - my folks warned me to NEVER talk to any priest, especially alone. They were well aware of what was going on in their church, and were ostracized once they tried talking about it with other bible-thumper zealot members. I'm just curious what you would do if you uncovered pedophilia in your church. Would you blame the boy, and protect the "priest?"
US victims of abuse by priests may now seek to sue Vatican - World news, News - Belfasttelegraph.co.uk Friday, 6 March 2009 A US court has opened the door for a man to sue the Vatican over claims he was sexually abused 40 years ago by an Irish priest who had previously molested a Co Tyrone boy. Lawyers hailed the ruling as a watershed moment for victims of clergy abuse, who for decades have demanded the Catholic hierarchy should be accountable for clerical abuse cover-ups. The case stems from the transfer of the late Fr Andrew Ronan to America in the early 1960s, after he allegedly sexually abused a boy in Co Tyrone. The case was originally brought seven years ago but only came to court last year, with the Vatican claiming immunity under a law that grants protection to foreign states before US courts, the Foreign Sovereign Immunities Act (FSIA)...
Although I'm hopeful this will become precedent-setting, I'm not holding my breath. The Catholic Church is one of the wealthiest asset owners on the planet. They can bring considerable power and influence to a court, eg money talks I would not be surprised at all if zealot members defend these "priests" and attempt to humiliate the victims. Of course, they have already humiliated and ostracized the victims The Vatican has a good thing going, and they know it.
I'd say it's really $#@% up. Obviously the corruption ran pretty high up. Wow, that is scary! I was raised Catholic but that never was a concern in our church that I am aware of, that's why when this all came about I was pretty shocked and then whole thing just kept getting bigger and bigger. It was disgusting. It makes me wonder if that ever went on in our parish. I'll have to ask my Dad if there were ever rumors, if anyone would say something, he would. There's no way I could protect a church or individual I knew was doing that, even if I put my life in danger exposing it. That's someone's child, how can a child ask to be a victim? If I know something and do nothing, then won't God hold me just as accountable as the predator? He should, IMO. I am fortunate to belong to a church that is very proactive in recognizing that pedophiles are a problem and that thinking it couldn't happen is not enough. We have extensive rules when it comes to interacting with children in our childrens programs and training to recognize it and how to report it. It doesn't stop with reporting it to church administrators, it must go further and outside the church. Does that mean that it can't happen? No, unfortunately not.
Why are there more pedophilia cases in the Catholic church as opposed to Protestant? Is it because of the celibacy requirement?
No, really! I wanted to cut and paste, but it's copyrighted. Read #4, Galileo and the Church. Galileo Galilei (Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy)
I don't know, good question. Perhaps the thought of celibacy would drive a lot of men away from service to God under such abstinence? I wanted to be a priest when I was a kid but when my Mom told me they couldn't get married and have a family I knew it wasn't for me.
I don't know. I doubt either one of us will find the entire story online. I did find some more info...but they are Catholic(except the last one)...so perhaps you may view them as not very credible, but nonetheless, an interesting read. " Why are there more pedophilia cases in the Catholic church as opposed to Protestant? Is it because of the celibacy requirement?" Catholic school girl uniforms? A staple of pervs everywhere.
There is a strong Jesuit history at U of A. Jesuits can be very apologetic of past "indiscretions" of various churches Of course, the Jesuits would never f*** a little boy Sex abuse suits drive Jesuits to file bankruptcy – OregonLive.com Papers: Jesuits Were Warned About Abusive Priest : NPR LOMBARDI: Lack of action in Jesuit sexual abuse case speaks louder than words - News Oh, but they'll "pray" for those guys who were f***ed up the nice person as little boys. Perhaps they're "praying" those now-grown men will STFU and not shine more light on this sad history of horrible child abuse
Wow...38 years...that's beyond pathetic. And unfortunately you're right, that's probably not the whole story.
You know, I'm just not understanding something here. What makes a pervert go after a boy anyway? When I was 10 or so, I never thought of myself as "cute" matter of fact, no sexual thoughts whatsoever. What two consenting adults do is their own business. But when an adult touches a kid that way, in my ideal world the adult is drawn and quartered. Sick, and even sicker that they can hide behind a musty old book, and a large powerful organization, all while blaming the victim
I don't get this either. There has to be some serious cross wiring in your brain to find children exciting. I am as far as you can get from prudish, some would consider me twisted, but I just don't understand how anyone could view kids in that light. It makes me sick. Tom
I think we should be glad we don't understand!!! Bad thing is, the problem is growing and not limited to priests. Internet predators continue to multiply - Security- msnbc.com One could argue it's a downward spiral beginning with pornography. Yes, I know many of you will think, "I look at pornography and I don't think that way!" I understand that totally. Surely it has to start somewhere, it would be hard for me to believe someone is born that way. I think we all have demons (whether metaphysical or not) we have to fight against.
This has nothing to do with the Internet. Priests were f***ing little boys *long* before the Internet, long before computers and electricity for that matter
Dude, chill. I was just stating the problem is getting worse, that's all. I'm certainly not trying to say the internet started the problem...geez.
