So we may or may not be wrong with our guess that 2010 Prius pricing will be announced Wednesday on Earth Day. But the real question is, do you expect to be Happy or Disappointed with Toyota's pricing point on the new Prius? Make your choice known in the poll I've created on the forums, and we'll do it again after pricing is (hopefully) announced on Wednesday. VOTE!
I'll be happy if the price is equal to or lower than the current pricing for the same 'grade' of car. I'll be disappointed if it's more than a couple of percent higher, bearing in mind that Toyota GB put their prices up by £500 only a few weeks ago. The aim has to be to get the car into as many hands as possible. Toyota has made quite a big bet on hybrids.
Sorry, Danny, but I just couldn't make the choice between the two options. I don't expect to be "Happy" only because it will be a difficult time to buy a new car, regardless of pricing. I may be "Disappointed," but I don't think I will be, because I expect the Toyota pricing to be pretty fair and competitive. I could be "Discouraged" or "Dis-heartened" -- this would be if I felt Toyota was gouging. I doubt this will happen, though I suspect Toyota will be pressed hard to get a low price on the II, only to produce few and charge big bucks on the IV and V -- particularly those with the two big packages. I'm just trying to remain calm in advance of the big day . . .
I want the 17" wheels and they only come with all the tech features, so I expect the loaded up Prius to be pretty pricy overall ... I'm thinking at least $33,000
How about neither? I don't intend to buy a 2010 Prius so the price has no effect on my life. I will be interested to see if I was right in my prediction for what a standard model will cost so really my interest is just ideal curiosity. Happy or disappointed are much too strong of descriptors.
For me, I think the price will be good, but the recent drop in value of my current Prius will undermine any deal that Toyota can make on the 2010. For that reason I believe the 2010 pricing will be disappointing. Tom
I am in the same boat as Tom but voted for Happy. I predict the 2010 price will be lower than a comparable 2009 (based on the Japanese pricing). I am happy if the 2010 price is lower but my trade-in value for my 06 will be lower.
My 1st gen value has declined significantly as well, though is really close to the 2004 value due to the "low miles".
http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601101&sid=a003hu3I9JYY&refer=japan What do you guys think??
A fairly loaded 09 cost around 27,500.00 so I should not think it would be much higher if any higher at all. When you think of the state of the world’s money problems, and all the deals other carmakers are having like 6,000.00 off and 0%. Granted no one has a car like the Prius, but ford (I know it’s a Ford) has a new one that can get 41 MPG, it is something that Toyota will have to think about. Jack
April 20 (Bloomberg) -- Toyota Motor Corp., the world’s largest automaker, will cut the base price of its Prius gas- electric hybrid model by $1,000 to $21,000, as it competes with Honda Motor Co.’s Insight, said a person familiar with the matter. Sounds good! $1k more than the Insight for a larger, more refined, more powerful, safer (?), more efficient and eco friendly car!
Sounds to me like that story hints at the 2009 being the insight fighter with no restrictions on pricing for the 2010. If that's the case i'm probly going to be very disapointed with the pricing.
Hmm.. You can read it that way too but it does not mention about Toyota continue to sell the Iconic model at the same time as the new 2010 model.
I'm in the market to purchase my first new car. The company I work for gives me a generous incentive to purchase a hybrid, the Gen III Prius is first on my wish list. I'm planning on checking out the base model when it arrives later in the year. If the rumor of about 21k is true, I would be very happy. Can't wait to finally take one for a spin.
