Does anyone think that there is anyway to integrate a radar detector to the 2010 Prius? In the same way that the car can have Dynamic Radar Cruise Control?
I think it would depend on what type of radar detector you buy. The Valentine One needs to see out the rear window. I'm sure a custom shop could rig up something with the headliner and integrate the wires so it wouldn't be visible. If you use a Valentine then be sure to have the rig that allows the lights to be mounted on the dash. There are detectors that will mount outside under the grill, but I haven't heard how good they work.
This actually prompted me to dig into what frequency Adaptive Cruise would be using... turns out it's using what the NCF refers to as the "76 band", which is probably the ~77 Ghz "W Band" approved for vehicle cuise control applications. My first thought when I saw "Radar" cruise was "Oh man, this is going to set off every radar detector in town..."
On my Sienna, I just mount my Valentine One right at the roof line, next to the rear view mirror. I've just tapped into the power that's there to drive the auto-dimming rearview mirror. This arrangement works great -- automatically goes and and off with the car. I would imagine a similar arrangement would work on the new Prius as well.
In the same way that you can have adaptive cruise control and the prius will give you feedback, I would love some type of screen or feedback for your speed... Just a wish on a wish list.
