Here's a link to Toyota's video about the White House announcement on national program for fuel economy and greenhouse gas emissions from automobiles. It's only a 23 second video, so you can go to Toyota's pressroom for more info, but even on that site there isn't much information. Toyota Vehicles : ToyotaStatement in Response to the White House Announcement of aNationalStandardforFuel Economy andGreenhouse Gas Emissions / Toyota Now that I'm making this post, there really isn't much to say about it other than it's something I just came across lol. Hey, give me an 'A' for effort at least
WOW ! ! This is a 180 from the olden days ... where Toyota would simply follow whatever GM et al were doing. My hat's off ... if I were wearing one.
GM and Toyota are in agreement on this. They were both suing California and the other states to prevent them from implementing state level CO2 regulations. They both have promised to drop their suits as part of the negotiations between the auto makers, states, and feds on this unified standard. (I say both GM and Toyota while it is actually all the major automakers: GM, Ford, Chrysler, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mercedes, etc.)
I'm glad to see this happen. While I disagree with a lot of the auto mfg whinging, I completely agree with them that there really should be one, Federal standard, not 20 state standards. At this point GM can hardly say no to the gummit anyways.
Especially since the GM Chairman of the Board is someone named Obama, who also happens to run the government (at least I assume he's the Chairman - how else could he "suggest" they replace the CEO and it happens the next day?). At least they won't have to change their initials - Government Motors still works...
