Getting message on display when trying to start car that "Car not in park....." Usually let sit for a few minutes/hours then it will start; however, this morning after sitting over 12 hours it would not start. 12 volt battery has been replaced. This just started again with 2 of these instances since Sunday. Also difficult to get car to turn off when this message is displayed. This is driving me crazy. Car has 95K miles. Help.
When was the 12V battery replaced? Are you getting good voltage on the 12V bus? Have you checked grounds? Tom
12 volt replaced less than 2 months ago and appeared to have solved problem. I am not good with batteries so I really don't know where to check.
Post your question in the car forum and you'll get a lot of useful advice. This is the forum for questions about the web site itself. Lots if folks never look in here.
Next time this happens, please look at the dashboard shift indicator, and see what "gear" the transaxle is in. Does this show P, or some other range? Who replaced the battery? If the battery is suspect, the tightness of the battery cable connections needs to be checked. Also, the voltage of the battery needs to be measured after the car has been sitting IG-OFF for a few hours.
The 12v battery is the most likely cause. Check the connections. If the battery is new it probably has been discharged. The question is what is causing it to discharge? I'd start with a diagnostic from a Toyota Certified Mechanic. Who changed your battery?
If the battery really is new, was it fully charged - as recommended - before installation, or just dropped in?
