It's a Basking Shark though. Not one of the many species that eat people. [ame=http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2009/07/14/vo.ny.shark.ashore.news12longisland]Video - Breaking News Videos from CNN.com[/ame]
It's true. Here's a picture of an assault in progress. I'm not going to post it here because of harrowing nature of the photo but I'll post a direct link to it for anyone with a strong enough stomach: http://tinyurl.com/m8cwyu I want to emphasize again though - THIS IS AN EXTREMELY GRAPHIC PICTURE. View at your own risk.
The title of this thread is : "26 foot shark washed up in L.I." And yet the news clip on the video says : "A 15-foot basking shark washed ashore..." That's a heck of a typo.
If you listen to the entire clip, after the long pause it cuts to a news story and it says 26 foot shark. It looks like it's bigger than 15 feet to me so I'm going with 26 feet. I doubt a 15 foot shark would make the news unless it had a person sticking out of it's mouth as they so often do.
