Warren buffet invested a quarter billion into this company. Shares for individual investors byddy have gone from $20 to $50 in 3 months. If EV is going to be the next step in automotive evolution this might be one of the major facilitating players. Anyone else have an opinion?

    Hi Burritos,

They are certainly a legit company - the batteries in any laptop you own have a good chance of being made by BYD. But are they a serious electric car company? Only time will tell....

BYD have come from no automotive capacity whatsoever in 2003, to selling 14,000 units per month of just one of their models in their range (the F3) in 2009.

A company that manufactures 1 third of the Earth's supply of mobile phone batteries should be taken seriously.

What's the deal about the CEO drinking the battery fluid?

Wang Chuan-Fu, BYD's CEO, drinks battery fluid to prove a point

That's doesn't make me think it's safe, just not instantly lethal.
