I am the owner of a new Blizzard Pearl Packge IV Prius with/Navi (just got in through cash for clunkers on Friday). I am really happy with the car and have been averaging 50mpg for the first 200+ miles. The one thing I would like to change first is the wheels so I have a couple of questions: 1. What are the specs of the Package V 17" wheels. 2. How wide are they? 3. How much do they weigh? 4. What offset range would work for the 2010 prius? i'm looking at some aftermarket wheels that are 17" by 8" wide which weigh about 24lbs. Does anyone know whether those will fit w/o any rubbing? I think the offset is 45mm. Thanks for your answers in advance. I'll post some pics after the rims are added.
Consider looking at Tire Rack - Your performance experts for tires and wheels for assistance in fitting. Also, you might want to consider 16 inch wheels as a nice compromise in terms of ride comfort, handling and cost.
Believe it or not, but that question has been asked. Seriously, there are a couple of older threads that give a lot of details on the wheel spec.
Thanks for the replies. I've actually searched for this topic and was able to get the tire size and weight of the V wheels but wasn't able to get offset or wheel width. On the tirerack.com, if you select a 2010 prius looks like the acceptable offsets range from 37 to 45mm.
From other postings: 2010 Prius 15X6J: 5X100mm PCD, 45mm offset 17X7J: 5X100mm PCD, 50mm offset 17inch:11.0kg 15inch: 7.4kg
I did all that research before fitting our new Prius (2 weeks old now) with aftermarket 17" wheels/tyres for delivery. 17" x 8" is definetly too wide....the tyre size you will need to fit will rub on the struts. A 17" x 7" wheel with 40-42 mm offset is ideal, and 205/50/17 is the ideal tyre size to be equivalent in rolling diameter to the originals (and therefore stay accurate in speedo readings). Alternatively, 215/45/17 size will do. Here's a photo of my choice....they are perfect.
Have you noticed any change in your gas mileage? Is it true that the owners manual says that if you change your tire size, you may effect the traction control? Thanks
Can't comment on fuel consumption as they were fitted from delivery. I can't see why very small differences in tyre size would affect traction control. It will have a small effect on speedo accuracy....however, the nav unit offers to compensate for that. If you go to menu - setup - page 2 - calibration, then press "calibrate after tyre change" the system will adjust to your new size tyres. Very clever car.
