I hate to say it, but I really just wore out trying to squeeze every 10th of a gallon of gas out of every mile. I found myself physically leaning forward while driving and would have to force myself to sit back and just drive the car. So, I turned off the HSI and now I feel like I can drive comfortably. Watching those tenths drop off the consumption mpg on the HSI was a real downer even though my car averages 52-54 mpg. Now I just glance at the MPG meter and think positive as it goes up to 100 mpg. I can also tell when the ICE is on just using the meter. If and when gas hits $3-4 a gal, I'll turn it back on.
You did the right thing, you should feel comfortable when driving - no need to torture yourself . You can now also pay more attention to the surrounding traffic instead of the HSI .
