I'm wondering if I should clean and polish these areas. Dirt seems to collect in the jams. Yes? No? OCD? Also - the black trim...some of it is rubber and some is metal - should I polish the metal parts just like regular paint?
When I first buy the car, I do inside the doorhatch jams with Zaino, but that's it. After that I just clean em' after I'm done drying the car after each wash. But hey, I Zaino my rims every few months as well so i fit into the OCD category I guess. Black trim, like what around the windows? That I don't touch... On the plastic around the wipers, b pillars etc I use vinyl and rubber cleaner on from Griots Garage. The spoiler should be waxed/zaino'd like the regular paint.
I'll admit that years ago I used to wax those areas, but I'm better now, and only wipe them down with an old towel after washing the car.
how this for OCD... my friend removes his wheels and cleans the inside part of the riims... he not only waxes doors jambs, but also the edge of the trunk and all hidden exterior areas. He also waxes UNDER the hood.
LOL @ taking the wheels off. I guess I'm sorta like your friend...I worry about these often unseen areas becoming "damaged." At least I'm not like my brother who will wash his car with an old crusty sponge that's been sitting outside for a week. His 6 yr old daughter was over here today and put her hands on the paint....I almost started screaming and cussing. I guess that was off topic.
I just spent all weekend doing just that. Waxed in the inside jambs, hatch back insides, and I even waxed in underside of the hood (metal part of course). Next year or the year after, I won't even consider cleaning them I am sure.
ok I draw the line at under the hood lol. I'll wax the door jambs once and get it over with (makes cleaning the dust in the future easier). Don't need to refresh them that often as they're not exposed.
