Americans send thousands to their deaths but don't have the guts for nuclear power or cut oil use: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/20/opinion/20friedman.html?hp
As a former european, I thoroughly agree with the article. We in the US are living in an unreal dream world regarding gas prices. It is difficult to find leaders in DC, just self-interested poll-watchers.
Hi All, When Thomas Friedman and the President of the U.S. Chamber of Comerce agree on something, and presumably the people who usually agree with these two, maybe it will happen ? The Chamber of Commerce President pointed out that federal fuel taxes have not been modified in 16 years. So, he believes its the right time. I agree with both of these guys, but would not spend as much on Health Care, although his point about economic viability of the US buisnesses is very much true. Infrastructure needs to be in there. Primarily because we are already spending those bucs. At least along my commutes.
Great. The gas tax will be reviewed for the first time in 16 years and it'll be done during the "Tax and Spend" Obama period. Even if Obama doesn't initiate the updated gasoline tax, he'll get blamed and the Republicans will use it to prove their socialist, raise taxes, penalize the driving public image of Obama.
Two things: It needs to be done And Obama is already used to being blamed for everything that's wrong, so what the hell.
