Along similar lines... when i was in college (with no access to a location where i could actually change my own oil), I frequented a local oil change place for that... One time they took out my air filter and forgot to replace it - The car ran perfectly fine without it for 3k miles... then they tried to blame the missing air filter on me and get me to pay for another replacement when i went for the next oil change!
If you spend any time at all in the Prius Maintenance threads, you will see a whole lot of information concerning how/why to change your own oil, how much/little additional maintenance your Prius needs, and the opinion of MANY of the long-time Prius chatters concerning pre-paid maintenance agreements, extended warranties, etc. We change our own oil. For other things, we go along with Galaxee's wonderful thread on "what services you need". Not that much has changed for the Gen III prius.
your car will run fine without an air filter, particularly a prius because you have a contained and sealed airbox but you're getting unfiltered debris, dust, detritus into the motor, and it's getting into the oil, which will thus need changing sooner, because it's suspending the particles ooooh ... no air filter is bad for the long term health of your motor man, i would have been upset gotta check up on everyone's work, and if you want it done right ... well, you know what they say gosh, you're almost better of not changing the oil and just topping it off than letting knuckleheads work on your car ever check the internets for complaints about jiffy lube and other quick change oil and brake services? thanks for the link :thumb:
ugh ... at least THAT customer is going to know what's wrong with his car, unlike the guy who's oil they forget to refill i can't imagine how high those kids had to be to do that
