Are Dealer Options Necessary and Worth the Money? I take delivery of new Prius 2010 this week. After we sealed the deal with the sales person, the options person stepped forward. My post deals with the options presented. Option 1: Get a smart key up to 1 annually for up to 5 years in the event you lose one. Program Cost: $300. My gut feeling is to decline. The options person claimed that a replacement key costs $500. The small amount of research I've done to date suggest that replacement key costs far less. Option 2: Undercoating: Options person claims that it helps protect the underbody from salt, corrosion, etc. and helps to make the ride quieter, particularly for a Prius. I think a cost of $295 was quoted. Again, my sense is to decline as I have on all prior cars I have purchased. The hird option is the body coating/sealer to keep the car protected from acid rain and keep the new car, waxed appearance. Again, I'm thinking a strong "no." Thoughts? Thanks.
