Remember the Moller Skycar? Moller Skycar to finally crash and burn? ? The Register Bye-Bye! :rapture:
While I think it would be a blast to have one, living in Los Angeles I have to say I don't want very many others having one.
It never would have worked. Not saying the concept isn't possible, but the Moller design would never have worked well according to a lot of aerodynamics experts.
The same way a helicopter attempts to lessen a crash landing, autorotation? Imagine texters and cell phoners flying. Not pretty. Probably a good thing they never sold a vehicle. But will become of the tech. I heard a claim that they got a 2 to 1 power to weight ratio out of their turbines. Imagine having those available for a PHEV.
**** It's not the speed of the wing, it's the speed of the air **** [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Channel_wing]Channel wing - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] VTOL can be achieved w/o ducted fans, which provide little lift...or head-chopping helicopter blades. A channel wing config is a much better design. A Custer channel wing plane lands much like a helicopter would.
