Today there was a backup of some miles on I-40 near Conway, Ark. Lots of stopping and then slowly starting up again for a bit, then slowing or stopping again, which seemed to be perfect for using electric power on my new (c. 1200 miles) 2010 Prius II. Looking at the speedomenter, the instantaneous MPG, and the picture of where the power goes, I got it up to 19, then 21 mph, and finally 26 mph without going down from "100 mpg" or having any indication of power coming from the ICE. I didn't hear the ICE, but I had the radio on. This is not going into stealth in the glide phase of pulse and glide, or "warp stealth" slowing down from highway speeds, but actually appearing to accelerate to this speed without ICE power. Is that really what's going on, or am I missing something? Thanks to anyone who can explain.
If you look at the HSI, you can stay on electric as long as you don't cross the center line. Top speed for that throttle position is about 40mph.
The stealth mode threshold is now 46 mph (42 mph on Gen2). http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii-2010-prius-main-forum/62635-46-mph-new-threshold-stealth.html Ken@Japan
