It can be argued the Prius may be the most hated car ever - and for no good reason. Hated because it can't go zero to sixty under ten seconds. Beat up in the Dust to Dust "study" Claimed to single-handedly turning Sudbury Ontario into a Chernoybl toxic site. The EMF is claimed to be harmful. Rescue crews might get electrocuted. Now we get to the real motivation for the hate...if it can't "kick a$$" - it's slow, "ghey", lacks "attitude". It's part of a vast left-wing conspiracy - who was that social enineering genius at Toyota that invited DeCaprio and Spielberg to design the Prius? Off roaders claim anyone getting into a Prius shape-shift into socialists, LBGT people, etc. With the possible exception of the Hummer, has any car ever been attacked like this? Yet, Consumer Reports rates the Prius the best in it's class - is a top ten seller in the US, with 1.4 million drivers globally, while writers even today foam in their mouth and compare the Prius to excrement. Anyway, I think this should be a medically classified disorder.
I say no. Unless you want to reclassify certain religious beliefs and political beliefs as a disorder also. I think Bob is correct about the IQ test.
I'm only half serious, but want to illustrate that some of the Prius hatred is not only irrational, but sometimes makes the person hating appear to have issues. Many of you have had an brief encounter with strangers and they hate even after it's very obvious you are nothing like what they thought your were.
I'm sorry, but Sudbury ON has been a moon scape for decades! Nickel mining has been going on for decades, before Prius' were a gleam in Toyotas eyes! Prius hating go right along with global warming denying,
Chuck, I'm concerned that the Prius owners may be reading too much into this Prius "hate" stuff. Could it be that because we love our cars so much that we focus on this too much? I've driven a lot of cars over the years. Along the way I have sensed; and observed certain positive and negative "response factors" from other drivers along the way in many different cars I’ve driven. My experience with “Prius hate” so far has not been remarkable compared to the other cars I've driven over the years. People and their actions are sometimes strange and complex. I really think if any negative responses occur it’s probably because of jealously. And frankly, we all have to admit, it’s hard to be humble when you drive the Prius….smile
In regards to this article mentioned, that site calls themselves Green Street Journal. A gearhead belongs there about as much as a beefeater in a vegan site. That or they need to change the name of their URL. My conclusions are based on reactions of other drivers, forum responses and articles over the past ten years. To some of you - I get it - the Prius is just a car! For those that hate the Prius, many of them are attaching the most assine things imaginable to it and don't get it.
I was just commenting on the calibre of the writing. Bad grammar, bad sytax, bad editing, just plain bad writing!
Calling hybrids a luxury because the Insight failed so miserably is really obtuse logic - the Insight was a failure on too many levels and got panned in reviews. And we all know what will happen with the Volt. What everyone seems to be looking for is a hybrid that costs the same (or less) than a regular car - which is pretty stupid. Hybrids will always cost more, for obvious reasons... Toyota may be able to overcome this with compact or sub-compact Prius equivalent - hopefully that's what they're working on rather than a "sporty" Prius.
