Hi guys, I was installing my amp and sub yesterday in the trunk and running some wires through the spare tire cargo area and came across this warning/code "Hybrid System Malfunction" and the car would not start or go into gear. It looks like a unclipped the connector of some sort from the hybrid system under the trunk area just above the spare tire on the right side. I was checking my ground and all the other wires when I came across the connection cover (in orange) and it somehow unlocked itself. I'm guessing I clipped as I was running the wires across. Anyway, if you are doing any work in the trunk area and happened to come across this problem, it just might be this little cover that might of came loose. Hope this helps someone out. If I'm not mistaken, that orange handle is the HV battery interlock, so it is not a mystery why you got the "Hybrid System Malfunction". The purpose of that handle is to disable the HV battery when you do any repairs that could expose you to the high voltage system.
Yes. I checked the ground wire, the power and 12v battery and finally I was just checking that lock and is was unlocked. Everything went back to normal after that.
If you remove the Hybrid Battery Service plug, turn the car off and on 3 times to clear the "Check Hybrid System" error and it will operate normally.
I just did the same thing (WIRE GOT SNAGGED ON THE ORANGE CLIP) and now I display the system error and the car will not start. I have removed the NEG battery cable and re-connected still no start. Is their a master reset for the HV? Any help will be appreciated Jim
If by mistake you unclip this HV interlock just reinsert and slide to the right to lock and you should be good to go Jim
