I have burned out 5 parking light bulbs on the driver's side of my 2005 Prius. They now last less than a week. All the others are OK. I have replaced the bulb only. Does anyone know if replacing what I will call the parking light module (that the bulb plugs into) will solve the problem? I originally showed the whole module to the guy at the auto parts store and he got a blank look on his face. Thank you, Ted Roberts
I think I'd check the 12V actual voltage when the car is on.... are other bulbs burning out? Are all the replacements from the same manufacturer/batch? I don't see how the housing could affect a bulb life.... it just holds the bulb and connects the 12v to it....
Any other details? Any accidents? Any aftermarket electronics installed? How long did you have the car before the first bulb burned out? Who has been replacing the bulbs, and how do you know that they are using the correct type?
Hi Ted, If you are referring to the Front Side Marker Light LH, that receives 12V power via the 10A TAIL fuse, along with its RH twin, the two tailights in the rear, and the license plate lights. That also provides power to the LED in the glove box. As previously suggested, you might measure voltage at the socket to make sure there's no problem there. If the voltage is OK, then it must be that you have the wrong bulb type or a bad batch of bulbs - make sure they are 12V bulbs.
My first guess is that the OP is using the wrong bulbs. I suspect the first bulb died of natural causes, while all the replacements have been killed. It's only a guess based on probabilities, but I would check the type of replacement bulb very carefully. Tom
I went to check the voltage on the drivers side and found it at zero. I also found out that the passenger side bulb was now burned out also. Thanks to Patrick I was able to find the fuse and replace it. I replaced the two bulbs with a different brand (from Toyota) and now everything is OK - All the bulbs are burning two weeks later. I'm not sure I found the assignable cause but I have parking lights. Thanks to all who helped.
I also have the front driver side marker light out with no voltage at the socket. The other marker light is on. Are there repair manuals on this site?
