I just bought an 06 prius with 30k on it. I am having some problems and I am new to Priuses (not sure what the plural of prius is). First of all, on my MFD when I press the climate button it says something to the effect of connect to air conditioner. Secondly when I go to info, the screen is locked and I can't reset it. When I go to current on the info screen the wheels are spinning on the car but it does not show me what is being used and how much charge my battery has. From what I can tell I need to replace the MFD unless someone else has a suggestion. I did the test where you hold down a button and turn the lights on and off 3 times and it showed that something was disconnected. Also, I don't know how to tell what package I have so I am not sure how to order replacement parts.

No. You need the correct part number for your vehicle. I attached TSB EL002-05 that shows that Prius is equipped with two different part numbers, which depends upon having nav or not. This is because nav-equipped MFDs have more buttons along the sides as compared to non-nav MFDs. Some early 2006s also had the analog display used on the 2005. This link describes how to fix the problem you report: The new 2004 Toyota Prius
Check the 20-pin harness behind the stock radio. It needs to be plugged in for the A/C and MFD to work properly. It is possible that the previous owner installed an aftermarket unit and reinstalled the stock one before selling it. He may have forgotten to plug that harness in.
