I will probably purchase a Prius IV, but I don't like the nav system that comes built in. Can another system be installed in its place? I currently use a portable Garmin Nuvi & find the usability way better, but it would be clunky sitting in the Prius. For a built-in, I love the one that came in a Chrysler Town & Country van I recently drove - another nav system that's far superior IMO.
Anything can be done if you give a body shop a blank check, but realistically speaking with most people's budget, the answer is no.
32kcolors is mistaken. There are several aftermarket head units that can be installed indash in a '10 Prius. I put a JVC KW-NX7000 in because I was unimpressed with the Toyota GPS. The JVC is awesome. Check out the audio electronics forum here.
Is it possible to put a lillput screen in place of the "AC controls and radio" box (I got the Prius without the nav option). The lillput screen would be connect to a PC under the drivers seat. How would you operate the AC controls?
If we're talking about a '10 Prius IV, the radio comes out and is replaced by a combo GPS/Radio such as in my case, a JVC KW-NX7000. Stunning sound, way better GPS performance than the stock unit, etc., etc. Check out this post along with the linked pictures.
Check with the member name Rebound. He installed a Kenwood head unit with Garmin GPS in his 2010 Prius. I have eXeclon DNX6960 in my 2006 Prius. See the link in my signature for more info. For your case, I suggest you get a lower package without the Navi and get the aftermarket unit you like installed.
I'm inspired by these examples, thank you. Any suggestion who I should go to for an aftermarket installation? I'm in the San Jose CA area.
